Appointment and confirmation of university leadership
This is to officially inform the University Community and the general public that the 85th Plenary Assembly of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) – the owner of Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU) – in its meeting held from 18th to 19th June 2025, approved and Confirmed the following appointments of Senior university officials. These appointments were made pursuant to the provisions of the Charter of Incorporation of Ruaha Catholic University (GN No. 176 of 2022) and applicable
University rules.
1. Sr. Professor Chrispina S. Lekule -Vice Chancellor (VC)
Sr. Professor Chrispina S. Lekule has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of RUCU. She is a
distinguished scholar and higher education leader, holding the following qualifications:
Bachelor of Education with Religious Studies – Nairobi - Kenya
Master of Science in Sociology of Social Responsibility in Education – USA
Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Leadership and Administration –
USA
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Educational Leadership and Administration –
Canada.
Prof. Lekule brings extensive academic and administrative experience, both nationally and internationally, and is deeply committed to transformative leadership rooted in Catholic ethos and academic excellence.
2. Professor Alex J. Ochumbo -Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration (DVC–FA)
Professor Alex J. Ochumbo has been confirmed to serve as the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration. He holds the following academic qualifications:
Bachelor of Philosophy – Ireland
Bachelor of Science in (Business Economics) – USA
Bachelor of Theology-Nairobi - Kenya
Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education - United Kingdoms
Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Economics and Management –
USA
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management – United Kingdoms
Prof. Ochumbo has been instrumental in developing Ruaha Catholic University’s administrative and
financial frameworks and continues to provide strategic leadership in institutional governance.
3. Rev. Dr. Pius Peter Mgeni - Financial Controller
Rev. Dr. Pius Peter Mgeni has been appointed as the Financial Controller of the University. He is a scholar and priest with the following academic qualifications:
Bachelor of Theology – Italy
Bachelor of Arts with Education (Geography and History) – Tanzania
Master of Philosophy – Italy
Master of Education in Management and Curriculum Development – Tanzania
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philosophy – Italy
Rev. Dr. Mgeni brings to the role a wealth of knowledge in education, psychology, and financial management, and is expected to strengthen the University’s financial systems and accountability.
These appointments shall take effect on 1st September 2025.
