The Institute of Health and Allied Sciences (IHAS) was established in 2007 at Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU) following the incorparation of the Medical Laboratory Science school from Ikonda Hospital in Makete District. Initially, the Institute copmrised of two departments: Medical Laboratory Sciences offering the certificate and Diploma in Medical laboratory sciences programmes and Pharamcuetical sciences offering diploma in Pharceutical sciences programme (with the Certificate in Pharmaceutical sciences added in 2017). In 2018, the Certificate and Di[loma in Environmental Health Sciences programmes were estblished under the Department of Environmental Health Sciences. Later in 2024, the Institute established two more departments, the Department of Clinical Medicine offering Certificante and Diploma programmes in Clinical Medicine and the Department of Nursing and Midwifery offering certificate, Diploma nad Bachelor degree in Nursing and Midwifery programmes. IHAS is commited to providing demand dirven quality education that produces competent and responsible healthcare proffessionals grounded in strong ethical and moral values while advancing teaching, research and consultancies to meet the evolving heath challenges of Tanzanians and the World community.
