FACULTY OF EDUCATION

About the Faculty

The Faculty of Education (FoE) is the youngest faculty at Ruaha Catholic University and was founded in February 2018. It developed from the, then, Department of Education, which was hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) from 2008/9 to 2017/8 at Ruaha Catholic University.
The Faculty emerged following the need to produce educational researchers and educators who are innovative in teaching professionals as required by the people of the United Republic of Tanzania. To fill that gap, the Faculty provides students with pedagogical knowledge and skills on how to teach particular subjects so that students may become competent and professional teachers in the world of work. Therefore, the Faculty strives to become a university hub for preparing professional teachers who possess the pedagogical knowledge and skills required in teaching profession.

Currently, the faculty is made up of two departments, namely:
1. The Department of Educational Foundations, Curriculum and Instructions; and
2. The Department of Educational Psychology

The Faculty runs three major programmes, namely:
1. The Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
2. The Masters of Education
3. The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education by Thesis

All programmes have been accredited for the admission of students by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).
Apart from the aforementioned programmes offered, the Faculty offers to the general community services such as research, consultancy, and publications. All these are done by the Faculty academic members of staff. Furthermore, the Faculty has a journal named RUCUJED, which publishes bi-annually research articles, original research reports, reviews, short communications, and scientific commentaries in the field of education and development.
In the near future, the Faculty expects to run a myriad of programmes such as the Certificate in Early Childhood Education, the Diploma in Early Childhood Education and the Bachelor of Education in Inclusive Early Childhood Education (Bed-IECE).
On top of that, the Faculty offers a short course on Early Childhood Education, which amounts to two months. The aim of offering such a course is to prepare guardians and heads of ECE centres in the effective management of centres and the accommodation of the varied behaviours of children. In addition, the participants are awarded the RUCU Certificate of Performance after the successful completion of the course.
